As a reference to http://myeeepcmylife.com.ph/dlreyes/the-flood-will-not-be-ok/ a batchmate from school who regularly organizes relief operations on a voluntary basis posted the following Facebook message at around 9pm last night :
Subject: Rescue / Relief Operations
Sad day for our brothers and sisters. Time to get together to do what we can to help.
1. Rescue Operations - though there are a lot of rescue operations going on, it seems there are just too many people that need help that have not been reached for hours. Does anyone have any trucks that can be used for rescue operations? We have some brothers who are trying to coordinate to reach areas that need help. Let me know asap.
2. Relief Operations - for sure the second phase will be relief operations. So many displaced people will be needing all sorts of donations soon. We are trying to coordinate with the Brothers if we might start a relief operation at La Salle Green Hills tomorrow or monday. If anyone wants to help out or has suggestions send me a message with your contact info.
By 10pm another message flashed in my Inbox:
We are starting a Relief Operations Center at La Salle Green Hills beginning 9am tomorrow, Sunday, September 27. Basically, we are turning LSGH into a drop-off point for donations and from there we intend to pack them and coordinate distribution to flood victims.
We would need volunteers for the following:
1. people to help spread the news that donations are accepted at La Salle Green Hills, Gate 2 along Ortigas Avenue.
Donations needed are:
Food (canned goods, instant noodles, biscuits, etc)
Bottled Water
Clothes
Blankets
Basic medicines
Cash
2. people to help man the Relief Operations Center. This would involve collecting, receiving, sorting, and repacking donations. This would also include helping in coordinating the distribution of goods. So far, the Relief Operations Center will be open throughout the day, it will be decided tomorrow if we will keep it open 24 hours.
3. For those that want to help organize this, we are having a meeting at 9am to set-up the committees and teams to run the Operations Center. We hope to decide on a system, the beneficiaries, etc. at that meeting. Please spread the news.
By 11pm, a deluge of Facebook statuses stated the following:
A Relief Operations Drop-Off Center has been set-up at La Salle Greenhills beginning 9:00 AM, Sunday, September 27. Those who are living in the nearby areas may bring their donations to Gate 2 of La Salle Greenhills, along Ortigas Ave., Mandaluyong.
Do you have some resources to share? Your extras may be someone else’s treasurer especially in this time of need. If there is just one positive outcome this flooding has done, it is to prove that helping others is OK.
EeePC Log : Off I go bringing the Eee with me to do some voluntary work. The EeePC shall serve as my window to the outside world to check some of the statuses of those who need help and to post updates on what is further needed. As seen last night, Facebook could be a source of news as to which areas could be prioritized and a good way of disseminating information.

Galing ng sense of volunteerism ng friend mo. We’re helping too, but here in QC, ABS-CBN also set-up a relief center. Sana more people will help out in any way they can.
