As I am writing this final blog, I don’t know where to start and how I would go about wrapping up the journey I and my ASUS have traveled right before your screen. In the span of 2 ½ months, I want to give a big thank you for all the readers, commenter, rater, the passerby, my fellow bloggers and most of all to ASUS for holding out this contest for us bloggers. It has been a good ride and it’s now time to wrap things up.

Why Touche’?

I haven’t explained to you guys why I named my blog Touche’ instead of naming it like with any blog titles that could have “Eee” with it. Touche’ is a French expression in response to a clever, witty statement in life. Touche’!

For me, Touche’ is a fitting blog title for my blog because I found my ASUS as a clever answer to my life. My ASUS EEE pc was bought out of necessity when I was struggling over having a bigger and heavier laptop. It was an answer to my school work, my travel and to the daily needs of being online – minus carrying a heavy laptop.

Why ASUS?

When I was choosing a netbook to invest in with my own personal saving, a lot of thought was put in to choosing where to invest my money in. This was probably the most expensive thing I have purchase with my own money and couldn’t be happier with it. http://myeeepcmylife.com.ph/miemie/how-do-you-love-theee-a-non-techies-pov-point-of-view/ gives you all the reason how I come to choosing ASUS over other product offered in the market.

fitting perfectly inside my bag

Traveling with my ASUS EEE pc

My ASUS and I have come far in the span of 2 ½ months. From traveling back and forth from my hometown to Manila, to now here in Baguio- it still have places to go to. I’m a proud owner of an ASUS EEE pc which I get to bring with wherever I travel. This past 2 ½ months, I’ve been lucky enough to visit Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia (3 countries where Star Virgo visit, I think).

@ the plane, off to Singapore.

Three countries that is truly memorable for me and which I’ve shared to my friends by updating my blog religiously while traveling. It has become my partner in crime, my constant traveler’s companion and truly a traveler’s must have.

Petronas Tower with my ASUS.

The up’s and down of being a student

When I started blogging here- I was still a college student who was going through a major pain in the ass (THESIS), juggling to get good grades for my major classes, org works and besides that, trying to enjoy to what was left in my last term in college. One of the reasons I’ve decided to invest over an ASUS was because of school, mostly. I was tired of getting stopped at the entrance gate of the school and the guard asking me to sign a permit for my laptop. Besides carrying a heavy laptop- transitioning to ASUS EEE pc, which almost weigh nothing compared to my old laptop, was an answered prayer to my problem. It does the work without the load of weight.

And now that I finally going to graduate this October, I can’t help but be grateful for the whole college experience and also for my ASUS who didn’t let me down at time when I needed it the most.

Soon, my ASUS and I will take another path towards fulfilling my goal to becoming a doctor. Come this June, I’m entering Medicine. (wish me luck) :)

ASUS is for me

Besides being a student and a traveler, I am just a normal teenager who goes through life as it happens. Happy go lucky, sometimes serious, sometimes careless and sometimes outrageous. I lived half of my life online. Endlessly, I’m always online over my online accounts sharing to my friends what happen in my daily life or just meeting new people around. But I am not getting any younger, I must now fill in the shoes of a grown up, I’m learning how to deal with my own bank accounts, paying the bills and becoming more responsible- using the internet.

I have my own life here in the real world but I also have a life in the internet realm. My ASUS is my way on how I access my “internet life” that I have built. It is my way staying connected to the rest of the world.

As this contest ends, I must now thank everyone who’ve read this blog as a passerby or as a regular. I am happy that I am now at the end of the finish line along with my fellow bloggers. I’ve worked hard and disciplined my self into finishing what I’ve started and I know I deserve a chance to win like everyone else is.

If you ask me that grand prize question, asking- why I deserve to win?

Here is my answer to you:

I deserve to win not because I own the most popular blog site, nor do I own the most numbered of post. But this contest was not about that. This contest was about my Eee pc and my life-It’s about you and your Eee pc and how you deal your day by day life. I’m proud to say that I moved myself from following trends that need not be all about computer games, computer sites and what not. This blog was dedicated to how I dealt with my own life with the help of my ASUS and much of it sharing my happiness, angers, troubles, memories over my ASUS and my blog. I may not be the greatest writer/blogger out there but I hope my blog left an impression to you guys. I deserve to win because I wrote with soul and I wrote by opening my life to you guys.

It’s already the end of the month today and tomorrow is already October 1st. As a promise to myself, I will place myself in a two month lose weight challenge starting tomorrow. This came about after realizing how I’ve been living a sloth’s life for these past few months. Lately, I’ve easily get tired and even going up a stairs of flight, I’m already huffing. I’m no longer fit as I used to be. And ever since I’ve started college, I’ve gained about 15 pounds all in all and its now time to lose it all!!

I’ve been checking around the net on what is the best way for me to lose weight without killing myself, starving myself to death and regimen that would perfectly in my daily routine. I was reading about this blog how Erick Virata aka Slick rick and Joseph Javier aka Mojo jojo ( I’m a fan of their radio! :)) took on the challenge on who can lose more weight. I was totally impressed on how much they were able to lose weight in the span of 2 months. Just two months!

That is where I would structure my own my challenge. My challenge would be in the duration of two months and since I am on this challenge alone, instead of a face off. I would challenge myself to lose 20 pounds in two months. And if I did lose that weight, I ought to reward myself (aside from reward of losing the weight), I promise to give myself a prize if doing so. A big one in fact.. :)

This is not the first time that I am imposing this challenge to me but the last few times that I’ve did wanted to lose some weight, I always ended up breaking all my rules and not losing weight. But this time is different- I’m ready to discipline myself and ready live a better life. I’m tired of people telling me how I’ve gained weight and tired of knowing that I am no longer as fit as I am before when I am still a varsity player back in high school. I had enough. It’s time to change and the time is NOW!

To go about in my weight loss, I have to track my progress towards my goal weight using Ticker factory. This, actually is my first time to use Ticker and my first time to share in the internet world my weight. Oooh, how shameful! You know how women are.. We just don’t share our weight with anyone. But I’ve realized, if I do share it online and show my track record with you guys- I will be more determined and dedicated in doing this challenge because I know people are watching and waiting for me to lose weight.

My current BMI.. :)

Here is a list I’m finally saying goodbye to:

-junk foods

-fast food…

- Carbonated drinks

-eating out

and saying hello to eating right:

- half rice per meal

- more veggies

-oatmeal for breakfast

-eat vitamins

and getting fit:

- getting active throufh sports- flag football and Badminton

- gym (note: enroll myself in gym when I get back to Manila)

-do yoga

-do taebo

-do house chores

and living right:

-get enough sleep

- have a happy outlook in life

-smile and be happy. :)

Now, the worldwill be updated on how I will lose weight as I cover it by blogging with my ASUS. Even if this blog would be over after today, I will continue on writing about my progress daily over my other blog.

Tomorrow is the start of my weight loss challenge. You and my ASUS are now witnesses over this challenge. There is no backing out. It’s time to lose it all!

Wish me luck!

Today, I left my hometown to travel all the waaaaay to the city of Pines! Although I’m not here for holiday nor pleasure (since I’m just tagging along with mom while shes doing a business meeting). I’m just sitting on a corner in a coffee shop using the mall’s free internet…

MMmm Hot choco with mint syrup.. It such a divine place to be in..

I realized today is the last day of this contest and I’ve realized I’m ending my blogging here in the city of pines just like how our family would travel all the way to Baguio to celebrate the end of the year and the coming of a new year. It has been a tradition for our family to celebrate Christmas till New year here in Baguio; ending this blog here in Baguio seems only rather fitting.

While I’m waiting for mom to finish.. I know I still have to do a final piece to wrap what a beautiful journey it has been.

But for now.. since it was tuesday yesterday, I’ve downloaded Gossip girl episode 3 yesterday and only to watch it now on my ASUS. :)

If this isn’t Heaven, then what is?

Before I forget about posting our last day of our big trip across Singapore-Malaysia, I promise to give you the last and the best part of our trip. The Day 4 in Malaysia- a one big heck of Misadventure rolled in one day.

read on to find out why…

The day started quite slowly for all of us. Woke up about 11 am and we were lining up in the bathroom waiting for our turn. Today’s iterinary was dedicated to GENTING the whole day. While everyone was finishing up in the CR, since I was already finished, I told them I’ll wait for them in the lobby to check the internet so I could check about Genting highland. So I checked…

After a while, everyone was finished and we were ready to embarked to Genting. According to the receptionist, we had to take the MRT till the end of the line and then ride the bus going straight to Genting. So we did. While on the MRT line, some Malay guys kept staring on us and giving that smirked laugh while they were taking in malay. Actually, I haven’t told you guys this one incident that happened right after we checked in our hotel. My two of my friends were “nabastos” when some malaysian guys (who they got to share the elevator with) ask my friends if they want to “get some actions” with them. Anak ng tokwa! At least my friends were civilized enough not to answer them back and just waited till they get to their floor level. I don’t want to make any strong implication at how they treat tourists in their country but judging from the way they left their impression on us, I may as well say it’s not a good country to visit when your group is all girls.

Problem rose again when we got to the Bus station and the we just missed out the 1pm bus. The next bus going to Genting was 3pm. Some men (who were transpo bookers) kept on following us and trying to deal us a transpo to Genting. But there was this one who insistently kept following us even if we already left the booking area. As in he was following us anywhere we go and he kept on talking to me since he knew I was the only one who can understand him (since he speaks Mandarin more fluently than english). Plus he was a scrary looking guy, one you just can’t simply trust.
My gut feel told me not to book it with any of them since for sure they know we were tourist and they’ll keep the price high. The booker offered us a taxi to Genting for “330 Ringgit” for 4 people. I’ve decided to check the real price for myself with a taxi driver. I hailed a cab and asked the driver how much to go to Genting. His initial offer was 170 Ringgit. I asked if it is for the whole cab and he said yes. (In my mind I was already pissed at the booker who kept on following us and the one who offered the 330 Ringgit price) I asked the cab driver again if there is anymore less since we will need two cabs. He then told us he could drive us to Genting for 150 ringgit. That was his last price.
Score! I quickly called my friends so we could quickly leave that place. I told them we already have a cab and I also told them about “tagang presyo” of that booker. That booker was even “bastos” when he approached our cab driver and told him:”these are MY customers.” He was asking our cab driver to leave us behind (it was his tactic) so he could make a sale with us.
I had enough. I told him in mandarin to get out of our way or I’ll call the police. He was already being abusive and was beginning to bully us in getting a cab in his price. Why not? When he could be making a lot of money!! To think—that was almost 230% mark up from the cab driver’s price.

He finally backed off as we rode the cab…. and finally, we were off that place. I was just glad to be out of that place.
The travel to Genting from KL by taxi took almost 2-3 hours. It was traffic (since it was their holiday that time, Edil Fitr). It was already 2:30 pm when we got to the Skyway transit where we would then need to ride a cable car to reach Genting.

Lo and behold, when we got there, there was a really really long queue for the cable car. A lot of waiting again… We were already getting pissed at how our day was unfolding. It took almost 2 hours before we got to ride the cable car and was on our way to GENTING.

While waiting at the long queue for the cable car.

When we finally got to the top… It was freeeeeeezing cold!!!!!

Just imagine how cold Genting is. At the top of the mountain.. (What the hell were we thinking we’re going for a swim? hahaha.)
(Okay, Back story: We did check Genting’s amusement park and its ammenities. How much it would cost us.. yadah yadah.. We also learned that there is a water theme park. So our plan was we would finish the theme park then water park… So another presumption we made was it was hot there since it was hot in KL… but but but! It was darn freezing cold!!! Think Baguio then minus the temperature degree to about -3. It was darn cold plus it didn’t help that we were in our Beach outfit. As in shirt and short and in our bags were our beach attire.)

In our beach attire to Genting. Shorts and shirt.

So maybe that is why people were staring at us when we entered the amusement park!!! Here we were in Genting, clad in our beach outfit when everyone else is wearing winter-ish clothes, jacket, scarfs and in their pants while we were almost freezing our ass of in our beach attire.

Had 3 Shirts on and still freezing.

It didn’t also helped that it was already noontime when we got there. Temperature was dropping quick. But we still decided to continue on riding even if we can feel the chills. We already paid, might as well enjoy it.

Another sort of bad luck we had was that we were running out of ringgit in our pockets. After paying for the entrance fee, our cab, cable car, and saving up for another cab payment back to hotel- we only have few ringgits left. As in, so few that we can even no longer buy good meal for lunch for all of us!

So here we are in Genting with only a few money left and freezing our ass off while trying to enjoy our Genting trip.

We did survive. Only rode 2 rides however (such a waste of money) because it was really cold and some of the rides were closed.

by 9:30pm, we decided to call it a night and we all wanted to go home. We were tired, hungry, cold and just wanted a good night sleep.

After another long queue to the cable car station, finally was able to get to the lower grounds.

So then we were off to the bus/taxi area to get a transpo for ourselves and when we got there– the place was deserted! As in no taxi, no bus and no van!!!!

Panic! Panic! Panic!

We were trying to search around the whole area for any taxi that would pass by but none to our avail. We asked the police for help but they’ve said taxis were no longer available at those time and if we want to hail a taxi we should take the cable car again and go to Genting to get a cab.

I wanted to scream!

We no longer have any energy to go back up there and the cable car would soon close anyway.. So we’ve decided to call our hotel in KL to ask if they could send as a taxi from KL to Genting to pick us up. Of course we would pay for the cab’s back and forth meter. The hotel told us to call them again after a few while, while they check if there is any cab available. So we did and the one speaking at the phone said he has his friend called and was going to pick us up..

We were glad.. and so we waited… and waited.. and waited…. for almost 1 hour and 25 minutes..

Waiting at the curb for our taxi to come..

Until another call came, it was from the same guy who we speaked with. He then said his friend decided not to go anymore and changed plan.

What the fuck! Why did he had to say it now when he could’ve said it earlier?

So now, we no longer have any transpo home. It was already 2 AM and our flight going back to Singapore is 8 AM. How are we going back to our hotel???

I’ve decided to ask again the nearby police station if they could help us. This lady police then tried to radiothe Genting top area if there is any available taxi… None available…. The last resort came.. She then said, we could ask private car owners to drive us back to KL and pay them money, sort of “arkilahin”. She then came with us in the parking area, when this car finally drove by in front of us as in perfect timing and the lady police halted it and told the owner of our situation. The car owner charged 300 ringgit but who we are to complain anymore. We just want to go home already! Even if it means riding a stranger’s car. At least it was five of us in the car and he was alone.

And finally we got back to the hotel 3:35 AM. We were even happy to pay the car owner his 300 ringgit since we were safely back to KL.

Thank God for miracles.

It was definitely one heck of misadventure rolled into one day. From the “bastos” Malaysians, transpo problem, wrong attire, freezing weather, few money left, long queues, and almost getting deserted in Genting— One darn misadventure I must say!

We still had a long night after that misadventure. Still had to pack our bags and check out our hotel. No more time for sleeping (We’ve learn our lesson from missing our flight on our 3rd day), so after packing, off we went to Airport.

by 9 AM we were back in Singapore…

Only to realize that my friend’s cellphone was left in our hotel back in Malaysia….

:x

Just as I got back home to my hometown, mom told me to go directly to the mall’s stadium to go see my dad and kuya since they are in a motorshow and mom would just meet me there. Instant family get together on a sunday. My dad and kuya are suckers for anything that have wheels- cars( vintage cars, that is), motorbikes, bikes, trucks and all the macho stuff I can’t even name. And yearly, dad and my kuyas never fail to miss out joining car competition. As again this year, it took them months to rebuild their entry cars from old piece of metal from the scrap skeleton of old cars. Amazing, I must say. I saw the before and after of these cars and you would just be amaze how different it looks now.

It was already awarding when I got there.

So… who are the winners?

Wooden Truck. My dad and brother’s car entry which won Best Vintage car in two categories.

My little brother loves me but he loves my ASUS more. As soon as he saw me, instead of saying Hi, he quickly asked: “Achi, where is your ASUS? BORROW!!” I smiled and asked a kiss from him before giving him my ASUS. He quickly sat in the wooden truck and was happily spending his time with my ASUS.

Vintage Landcruiser. (forgot to take a picture of the whole car) Won the best vintage in Japanese car category.

My cousin and my kuya’s friends also won in different categories. In fact, I think their group won the most trophies in the event. :)

***

After the event, our stomach were already growling and it was now time to celebrate. Went to our favorite local restaurant for dinner. As usual, my little brother borrowed my ASUS again to show mum some funny videos, insisting she must watch it.

Aaaah, I miss having Sunday family dinner.

As the saying go:” the family that eats together, stays together.

And I add..

spends more quality time with each other.

ASUS is part of our family now. :)

later,

(written earlier, just posted it now)

Finally, a new day has dawn. Yesterday had been quite a hectic day for me from cleaning the water that was slowly incurring inside my room to the stranded friend who suddenly texted me and asked if she could stay with me for the meantime. I said yes of course.

Today is a better day. It just is.

Today I finally brave the aftermath of Ondoy and with my backpack with me and my ASUS toted in my sling bag, I was ready to go back home in my province. No cars are available that I could hitched in, So it was either the bus or just not go home. Bus it is.

Read this entry that I’ve did while I was in the bus:

11:38 AM

I am now here in the bus. Finally, I can go home. The bus ride will take about 5 hours++ (depending how bad the road is after Ondoy struck).

It will be a long ride. Iwas more worried about my friends, especially C., B. and P.

C. had been stuck in the 2nd floor of their house ever since 1pm yesterday since flood had went in and covered the whole first floor of their house. Besides that, they weren’t able to bring any food with them and haven’t eaten the whole time. They didn’t have water, electricity and cell site during the whole incident.

She texted and said:” Today, the water have finally went down and we are just cleaning away the aftermath of Ondoy.”

***

B. was in the airport yesterday. He was supposed to go to Macau but his flight was re-sched until further notice. They are waiting ducks in the Airport, can’t go home since the taxi’s were charging like crazy and the roads to their house are unpassable.

And finally he texted in and said:” they are about to leave Manila now.”

***

P. on the other hand, still worries me till now.

She wasn’t online the whole day yesterday. It was unusual for her not to be online even for one day. So it got me worried when I texted her yesterday and she didn’t answered back. I thought maybe she was busy with moving stuffs and all sorts.

Today I’ve learned from the radio that their municipality is being heavily flooded and is still submerged at the flood as of this moment. I texted her again. No reply still.

Can’t call her too.

I’m really getting worried…

***

So much has happened yesterday and today, all just because of this unexpected rain.

But what best we got from this whole incident is knowing Filipinos willingly help out each other during times like this.

Can’t help but be proud to be Filipino right now. :)

***

Now in NLEX with my ASUS keeping me company for the whole journey. Still writing down some things in notepad just so I can’t forget a list of to do when I get back to Manila. Will also watch Gossip Girl season 3 episode 2. Can’t be anymore happier to see the sun has finally risen. Finally, I’m on my way home. Its just me, ASUS and my back pack in tow. Everything will be alright. I will be home in 5 hours time.

My friend just sent me this pic over facebook and I gasped at what I saw. DLSU campus is flooded.

I live somewhere in Taft and somewhere near the school area. I still haven’t gone down to the lobby area of our condo to check what is happening down there. I don’t want to see how bad the flood is. But these picture will definitely give you idea how bad it has gone.

I am a bit better now compared to how I felt just this morning. Still haven’t gone offline since this morning and hopefully by playing some songs here in my ASUS would help me entertain myself being stuck here in my room alone and relax even for a bit. There is this one singer I really like and whose songs are completely soothing. I would definitely recommend it (even if his songs are mostly chinese and I couldn’t even half understand most of his lyrics) I think you would still love his songs despite that. But don’t worry he also have rendition of classic english songs (which I think is also good). His name is Khalil Fong, a Hong Kong raised singer and fastly becoming famous all over Asia. I’ve discovered him during my flight to Taiwan. His songs were playing over the “mp3″ of the plane- right then and there, I fell in love with him.

This was not how my I planned my Saturday. Woke up in my alarm at 10 am and the room still looked dark. I thought, I placed a wrong alarm yet again and just decided to go back to sleep. Woke up again after a few minutes due to constant dripping and wind howling sounds and decided to check my watch for the real time. and then boom, its already 11:33 am! And whaaat is that dripping sound??!

View from my window. Cars are stranded and according to a friend who texted in, flood is knee high deep.

Lo and behold, my room/pad is being flooded from ceiling leaks! And the rain outside, when I peered through the window, have no plans on stopping anytime soon! I’ve watched the news yesterday and didn’t seem to hear a typhoon would be hitting Manila this hard. Oh man, I’m getting paranoid. Besides from earthquake and fire, typhoon is my next worries since living in a condo in a high rise building will give you all sorts of worst case scenarios.

The ceiling is leaking!!!!

To top it all of, I am all alone in my place!!! The electricity was going off and on this morning and its kinda scary that the last life line you have would suddenly go down. Luckily, the electricity went back and is now stable. I’ve charged my cellphone, emergency light and laptop just to be sure. Oh, how I need my parents now more than ever. After a quick check in the whole room for any more damages, I’ve decided to go online and at least get to talk to someone else before I go paranoid over what is happening! At least the good thing about this rain is that it keeps everyone stay home and go online. About 1/3 of my friends are online in facebook! Wow.

Deviced plastic cups to catch the pouring rain. :(

Today was supposed to be our football day. Today was also supposed to be when I’ll be meeting up with my friends for a business plan. And today was also supposed to be when I’ll be going back home to the province. All cancelled because of ONDOY! Argh.

A view from my working table with my ASUS.

This is my Saturday with my ASUS, what’s yours like?

Stay safe everyone and pray.

Where to? where to? where to next?

Since I’ve been a bum for quite few weeks now. I’ve decided to use this time to make the most of my “break” and start doing things I really really love, which is travelling. Although my savings are getting smaller by the minute, I think every travel is worth the penny. Travelling is my passion and my love, what cost you would incur just to make every travel a dream come true.

So I have been spending quite a few hours in my asus today and researching where to go next. I was thinking somewhere local and something that includes a beach, a surfboard and one good sunny day. Yes, I want to surf! I think, planning this trip would hit two bird with one stone in my life list. One is travelling domestically (haven’t tried travelling by plane domestically ever yet) and two, learning how to surf.

So far, I am weighing 3 options in my mind:

1. Surf in La Union

2. Wakeboard in Cam Sur

3. Stop by in Cebu, surf and eat lechon.

Here are the pros and con:

Option 1: La Union

pros:

closer to where I am right now

no longer need to ride a plane ( which means money saved)

Surfing capital of luzon.

cheapest from the 3 option

cons:

good weather must cooperate before you can surf

rainy seasons is coming which only mean jellyfish outbreak

need to find way to commute to La Union

Option 2: Cam Sur

pros:

Technically, its not surfing but wakeboarding.. but…but… its almost the same.. Actually, I think this is a better idea because you’re being pulled by a mechanical equipment which is better than trying out the real surfing for newbies like us. Our bones and fats are not yet ready for much stretching it would be placed to.. hahaha. Must condition our body first! :)

two, I’ve want to visit Cam Sur. Amazing how that little City was able to make a name for itself and now yuppies, famous people, professionals, and others flock the place for their establishments.

rain or shine, you can still wakeboard..

a plane ride away

cons:

can be costly since hotel, park payment, plane ride, food, etc.

Option 3: Cebu

pros:

Cebu, how I always wanted to go there but always hindi natutuloy ang plano. Hopefully now, plans would go thru..

Surfing + Lechon= total nirvana!

foodie wonderland!

I can visit my cebu friends, while I’m there.

cons:

expense expense again..

weather must cooperate to do activities

plane ride away.

***

Until now, my friends and I are still weighing where best to go.. By tomorrow, we already have a decision for sure. From looking around the internet world, I discovered so many sites that offer good information on surfing lessons, hotel contacts, and most of all, plane cost! I’ve discovered Cebu Pacific has new promo which is very timing for my plan! Domestic seat sale! wuhoo! Still checking out more stuff in the net to iron out minor details left for this trip..

Now excuse me as I plan and book my next travel with my ASUS! :)

watch out!

xo,
